How does God combat evil?

Practical measures and practical efforts may be required on the material plane. But real change can only be internally driven. Resist not evil does not mean doing nothing at all: it means firstly avoiding the contagion of hatred, which involves responding to hatred with hatred; evil feeds only on hatred, so you can't afford a speck of it in your soul. And it means secondly undermining the hatred specifically by responding with love. What is love? Determining needs and addressing them. Forgiveness. The fortification of unity through identification. The dispelling of fear through the overcoming of separation. Helping people ready to change to change. Accelerating the rock-bottom of those on their journey towards the crisis by mirroring reality back to them, unflinchingly, impartially. Showing a different way. No alcoholic ever recovered because someone shouted at him. No addict ever recovered through argument and derision. How does change take place? Person by person, in an ever-extending ripple that is magnified, not attenuated, each time it affects another individual. How much good is there in the world? How many people are there in the world? The answer is the same. The difference lies only in the vivacity or dormancy of that good. The good in how many people can you awaken today? Let the dead bury their dead means leaving the material world to handle the material world: let those active only on the material plane handle the necessary work of the material plane. For the few(er) who can operate on the spiritual plane: that is where your work lies. Leave the overall plan for goodness overcoming evil to God: ask for and work on your own contribution. A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways means avoiding material concerns or hubristic attempts to divine God's overall plan and instead keeping the focus on one thing: fitting yourself to be a channel for God's love to others.
