'God's great goodness aye endureth,
deep his wisdom, passing thought:' (Robert Bridges)
deep his wisdom, passing thought:' (Robert Bridges)
People trust their own ability to think. If they're upset or frightened, they try to think it through. The tool they're using, the human mind, is broken. Everyone's mind is infected to some extent with irrationality and the distorting effect of the self-centredness. Some untangling of false perceptions, beliefs, and attitudes is necessary; some talking through is necessary. Ultimately, to transcend the problem, we need to stop trusting in ourselves, our minds, our perspectives, and our ability to think ourselves out of broken thought using a broken mind. Deep is God's wisdom, passing thought: at some point we need to leave thought behind and plunge into God's mercy, allowing ourselves to be carried to a new place.
